“Do what you love.” How many people can actually have the opportunity to do that?
Yet that is exactly what I have done. I started working in Real Estate after several years in another field. I have grown to love it, and to love the opportunities it has given me to help people in Punta Cana.
I worked for many years in New York in the fashion industry. In 2004 I moved to the Dominican Republic and found myself at a crossroads.
We had a difficult, unpleasant experience when purchasing our villa when we arrived in the Dominican. There were some issues our agent didn’t fully inform us about. I learned then that in the Dominican there was a lack of regulation around real estate, and I saw a need for professional realtor services.
I decided to be brave and jump right in to a new career in Real Estate.
I was fortunate – I had the luxury that many agents don’t have, the luxury of not having to list properties immediately. Instead, I was able to build my business slowly from the ground up, learning from my mistakes, improving my profile and reputation, and building my client base.
Real Estate work is less secure than my previous career in Fashion. There are factors you cannot predict or control. However, I have been able to forge ahead and get results because whether I am helping people buy, sell or rent, I put 100% into making things go as smoothly and profitably as possible, and my duty to my client is of the utmost importance to me.
I like working with people, and enjoy making this process easier and less intimidating for my clients. A well-informed client is a grateful client. Giving people good information so that they can make good decisions is an essential part of the service I provide.
Another reason why I love being a REALTOR®? I have a flexible schedule, which allows me to enjoy a good work-life balance, and I have hard-working, professional team of agents working with me, allowing me to take time off and visit family in Spain and Puerto Rico.
The reason I became a real estate agent is because I love what I do. I am willing to put the time, effort and energy into constantly getting better, smarter and more knowledgeable about this business. There are far more downs than ups in real estate at the beginning, but if you persevere and are smart about your choices, it can be an incredibly rewarding career.
While it may not be always easy, I can think of nothing I would rather do in my life.
