Home Staging and Coastal White Decor

Bright Whites!

One of the most asked questions we receive is how to work a small space. Box rooms and cramped kitchens can be difficult to live with, but fortunately there are some simple and inexpensive tricks we can use to really get the best out of a room, no matter how compact.

One of the most effective is the use of white. While colors absorb light, white reflects it. For best results, it is best to paint both the ceiling and walls the same shade. This will give the illusion of a higher ceiling. If possible, extend this to your flooring which will uniform the room and your eyes will be tricked into seeing a much larger space.

Careful positioning of plain mirrors can also give modest rooms grandeur. Avoid clutter, or extreme contrast with your furnishings; you’re looking for a minimalist feel for maximum effect.

If you want to add a splash of color, be sure to stick to light, plain shades on only one wall.

Lighting is key, and if you’re limited on natural light, be sure to add artificial lighting to key areas of the room. With the huge choice of light bulbs available, you can easily find one that works for you. Harsh overhead lighting should be avoided as it concentrates all the light into the center of the room. Look to brighten any dark corners with tall lamps and bright light shades.

If you’re fortunate enough to have large windows relative to the room, don’t hide them under heavy drapes. Natural light is fantastic for creating space where there isn’t any. Combining natural light with your crisp white room will give a beautiful end result.
